To ensure that a horse carriage at Central Park Horses is available whenever they want it, visitors should arrange their carriage ride in advance by making a reservation. When it first opened in the winter of 1858, New York City's Central Park was the first major landscaped public park in the United States. According to legal regulations, each car can carry a maximum of 4 adults OR 3 adults plus 2 children under 12 years old. Fall foliage is still in its final stages in Central Park and the longer carriage ride gave us the opportunity to see it at a pleasant and leisurely pace. Licensed carriages and drivers are always found on 59th Street and 5th Avenue (known as Grand Army Plaza), and along 59th Street, from 5th Avenue to 8th Avenue.
An old-fashioned carriage ride through Central Park is a unique way to enjoy New York City for first-time visitors, frequent travelers, and even local residents. I contacted Matt to request chocolate-covered roses and strawberries for the trip and also a photographer to commemorate the experience. All carriages, drivers and horses are regularly inspected by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The bouquet of flowers was beautiful and the photographer was top notch and I received the photos a few hours into my trip.
